Wildlife for you to look out for on nature walks in June Posted On 23 May 2023

It is one of the best times of the year to head out to witness the beauty of nature

June marks a wonderful time of the year to strap on your walking shoes and head out for a wonderful nature walk.

With the bitterly cold days of winter firmly behind us, nature is constantly evolving around us, which can act as a true spectacle to see.

There is plenty for you to try and spot and make note of when heading around your local green space, forest or waterways.

Here is just some of the wildlife for you to keep an eye out for at this time of the year.

The butterflies are everywhere!

This is the prime time of the year to see an array of colourful butterflies.

The warm sunny days make the country a fantastic place for butterflies to thrive, so make sure to pay a visit to gardens and parks to see all manner of species.

For example, the majestic peacocks will be out, which have red colouring and striking eye-like patterns, as well as commas, which are orange in colour with black speckled wings.

Stunning flowers

In terms of flowers, June sees a number of wild and native flowers start to bloom.

If you are heading through open fields, there is a chance you could see plenty of poppies, daisies and buttercups, while woodland areas are great locations for foxglove glades.

Pick any time of the day

While many may choose to head out into nature in the morning or in the middle of the day when the sun is at its peak, a walk at this time of the year can be incredibly relaxing in the evening.

Expect to see plenty of moths teaming around in the evening, including the elephant hawk-moths, with large pink and green wings.

This is also a great time of the year to spot bats in your local area, as the female bats have given birth so are heading out into the night’s sky to catch insects.
